Timeclock44 vs Hours Tracker: Time Calculator

Hours Tracker: Time Calculator is the most rated hours app on the US App Store. See how it compares with Timeclock44 on overtime and take-home pay.

Disclosure: Timeclock44 is our app. This comparison is written honestly, including the places where Hours Tracker is the better fit. Ratings and pricing are from the US App Store as of September 2026.

Quick answer

Hours Tracker: Time Calculator by Appostrophe is a weekly timesheet: you type in a start time, an end time, and a break, and it totals your hours and multiplies by your rate. It is the most rated app in this category and it does that one job well.

Timeclock44 is a time clock: you tap to clock in, it runs a live timer, and it applies overtime rules and tax estimates so the number on screen is what you should expect on payday.

If you just need weekly totals to copy onto a paper timesheet, Hours Tracker is enough. If you want to know whether your paycheck is right, Timeclock44 does the math the other app leaves to you.

Where Hours Tracker wins

Simplicity. There is no timer to remember and nothing to configure. Open the app, enter today’s hours, done. Reviews praise it above all for being simple.

Excel export. If your manager or bookkeeper wants a spreadsheet, Hours Tracker exports directly to Excel as well as CSV. Timeclock44 exports CSV and PDF, which opens in Excel but is not a native workbook.

Track record. With over 80,000 US ratings since 2019, it is the most rated app of its kind. That volume is real social proof, even if the app has not changed much lately.

Where Timeclock44 wins

It is an actual time clock. Tap to clock in when your shift starts and a live timer runs until you clock out. Forgot to punch in? Edit the shift by hand. Hours Tracker has no timer; it can remind you to log your start and end times, but you enter them yourself.

Overtime is built in. Set a daily threshold (over 8 hours) or a weekly one (over 40 hours) and a multiplier, and the app splits regular from overtime pay for each job. Hours Tracker uses one flat rate, and the lack of an overtime option is the single most common request in its reviews.

Take-home pay, not just gross. Timeclock44 estimates federal and state withholding for all 50 states plus DC based on your filing status, or a flat percentage if you prefer. Hours Tracker stops at gross.

Still being updated. Timeclock44 shipped its last update in August 2026. Hours Tracker’s last update was September 2024, and its reviews keep asking for overtime that has not arrived.

Android. Timeclock44 is on Google Play. We could not find an Android version of Appostrophe’s app.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hours Tracker: Time Calculator really free?
